Intellitect delivers first GPRS drinking water monitors

Intellitect's Chief Executive, Tony Halker, says: "This is a very significant milestone for the business; the IntellisondeTM monitors have internal dataloggers which enable them to record water quality and flow data continuously. However, the addition of GPRS puts the product in a league of its own; Water Companies can now access continuous data remotely which provides them with enormous advantages.

"Until now, delivered systems have recorded continuous data for collection and analysis at a later stage. This has enabled the detection of water quality incidents, albeit after they have occurred. Nevertheless, this data has proved extremely valuable in helping Water Companies to improve network modelling and to gain a better understanding of water quality at the point of delivery. However, the addition of GPRS real-time monitoring means that Water Companies are able to take a proactive approach, using data to continuously refine and improve operational efficiency, water quality and customer satisfaction."

Up to 12 different measurands are available on each IntellisondeTM from sensors mounted inside a tiny sonde head that fits in the pipeline through a 1½ inch valve. Parameters include a Patented, robust, highly accurate solid-state chlorine sensor that can monitor continuously for up to 6 months without recalibration.

Measurement options include Free Chlorine, Total Chlorine, Mono-chloramine, Dissolved Oxygen, Conductivity, pH, ORP/Redox, Flow, Pressure, Temperature, Turbidity and Colour. Importantly, none of these require membranes or reagents and the sondes can be deployed for long periods without the need for frequent recalibration or maintenance.

Whilst most of the IntellisondesTM that have been employed in initial trials have been the basic logging version, Tony Halker believes that the GPRS version will be the instrument of choice once the monitors are rolled out to Water Company operational teams.
